Ancient stone bearing mystery carving found where Jesus ‘walked on water’

A mysterious stone with ancient carvings dating back nearly 1,700 years has been unearthed in a region renowned for its historical significance, claimed to be the site where Jesus Christ performed a miracle by walking on water.

A volcanic basalt obelisk, adorned with ancient Greek script, has the potential to yield valuable information on the governance of the Roman Empire over regions inhabited by cities.

Scholars have pinpointed the stone, excavated in Upper Galilee at the site of Abel Beth Maacah, as marking a border during the Roman Empire.

The inscriptions on the basalt stone go back to 1720, marking a glimpse into the administrative practices of that time under the rule of Caesar Marcus Aurelius Alexander.

Academic Uzi Leibner from Hebrew University emphasized the substantial relevance of this finding.

He said: "Discovering a boundary stone like this gives us a unique insight not only into ancient land property rights and tax systems but also into the personal lives of individuals who lived and negotiated these complex systems nearly two thousand years ago."
